Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I love dogs. My favorite colors are purple and green, but not together. I don’t know how to leave the house and not get a coffee. Long strolls down the aisles of Target are my ideal Tuesday morning, and I really, really love Jesus. Most importantly, after Jesus, I am obsessed with my husband and four kids, who make life way more fun than I could ever have imagined. If you want to know more, you’ll have to read the book.
What inspired you to write your book?
Simple answer? God’s ability to completely change a hardened heart. Longer answer? Writing was always a love of mine, and years and years ago I felt God say I would write a devotional one day, but no idea I had ever seemed right until this one. I didn’t even realize I was writing a book until I had about 8 topics written out, then everything started flowing out in the form it is now. I knew then it was something God wanted out in the world, but that it wouldn’t look like your average women’s devotional.
When did you realize your own personal story had themes that could resonate with a wider audience?
I think it’s so special that God creates us all uniquely, but still connects us in such deep ways. The Bible tells us that we experience the same hardships and situations that our brothers and sisters in Christ do all around the world, and that is so comforting to me. We were created to be in community, and that includes our struggles just as much as our triumphs.

How did you navigate writing about real situations from your life?
It was tricky. I did a lot of praying and pressing in, because some of the stories and reflections aren’t just my story to share. I wanted to be respectful of those in my life, while also being transparent in what God has done.
What was the easiest and most difficult part of writing?
The easiest part was doing it, but the hardest part was realizing people might read what I wrote. I truly loved the process of writing and editing, but the moment I realized people I know may actually read it was scary and came with a ton of doubt.
How did you handle doubt, comparison, or imposter syndrome along the way?
Give it to God. I know that’s probably an oversimplified answer, but the only thing I can do when I doubt myself is to remember the One who created me. God put me here, and no one else’s opinion (including my own) can negate that. Sometimes it’s more difficult to do that, but I try my best to lean into Him when I start spiraling.
What’s something no one told you about publishing?
So much behind-the-scenes. I think logically, we know this, but seeing it and being part of it are two different things. It was so fun, though.

What was the moment it felt real, like holding the first copy?
I’m not entirely sure… I still feel very “pinch me”. Reviewing formatting was a big moment for me… like whoa, this is what it will look like. Holding the book was a pretty great moment, too. I am just in awe of what God can do and the fact that He would use me to do it.
What would you tell the version of yourself who was staring at a blank page?
Stop trying to do it on your own, and invite God into it. Breathe, girl. And yes, you can have another coffee.
How has your own faith changed between starting this book and finishing it?
God has shown Himself so faithful over and over again in this process. He strengthened my confidence not in myself, but in the things He put inside of me.

What’s your personal quiet-time rhythm?
As a mom of four, I have had to learn to flow with the changes of life. Most of the time, though, I love to sit with my Bible, a journal, and a cup of coffee and just let go of expectations. Some days I read an entire book of the Bible, and some days I read two verses over and over again. A lot of women’s conferences tell you to have one spot, one set time every day, and I think for some people that works! But I have learned that God meets us anywhere at any time, and it’s okay if it looks different on a day-to-day basis.
What’s your prayer for the person who picks it up?
My biggest hope and prayer for every person who picks up this book is that it would point them to Jesus and the Word of God. That is the only place they will find true freedom. Being in the Bible is so important, and it’s where we truly learn God’s character, kindness, patience, mercy, grace, and love. If this book points you towards anything, let it be that.
If a reader only remembers one thing from your book, what should it be?
That you are so loved by God. And that when everything else is falling apart, and everyone seems to fall away, He is the rock that you can stand firm on. He is never-changing, so so kind, and wants His best for you.
