Release day is here! Your book is officially for sale and you are anxiously awaiting the reaction of readers. But… reading a book takes time. Chances are, you won’t hear anything about your book for a few days (or weeks).
So, now what?
It’s easy to feel a little stumped after a book release. Sure, you can keep marketing, but what else is there? I would encourage you to fight the urge to constantly refresh Goodreads and Amazon, scouring for reviews. Instead, here are a few things you could do to fight the post-launch blues:
Treat yo’self
You just published a book! That’s incredible. You deserve a little break (and probably a little treat). So, go get a mani-pedi or massage. Go splurge on a delicious Starbucks drink (get that Venti! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!)
Spend time offline
Shut down the computer, and lock your phone away. Spend some time off the internet and away from a screen. Go for a walk, journal, or read a book! Anything that’ll keep you away from doom scrolling.
Be honest with a safe person
Publishing a book is equal parts scary and exciting. If that imposter syndrome is starting to ramp up, call a friend or loved one. Tell them how you’re feeling and let them encourage you. Spend some time talking through what this release feels like to you. Maybe even get a good hug. Science says that a 20-second hug helps boost oxytocin in the brain. So squeeze a loving friend! Get that oxy-boost!
Remember:
Whatever happens, it’s not the end of the world. Your worth does not come from how well your book does. You have worth because you are you. And writing a book is hard. Be proud that you did it, regardless of what the reviews say! You accomplished something grand. Take pride in that! And take a breath.
Best of luck!
