Meet the Author: Darlene R. Gildersleeve

Get to know our newest author, Darlene R. Gildersleeve. She wrote December Grace: Embracing God's Strength in Season's of Grief. Hear about her life, writing, and journey to publishing!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I have worked 30 plus years as a mental health therapist. I love God with all of my heart and cherish my family (Matt, Rachel, and Ryan) additionally, caring for my dear Mother, Ella Mae. I love nature and going for walks in the woods with my collie, Laddie and Hubby. Also enjoy playing with my additional furbabies, Finn and Murphy.

What inspired/led you to write your book?

After living in denial for 37 years God had shown me it was time to quit running. Our trauma and difficulties in this world cannot help others if we do not share them with others. We are never alone! This is so relevant to grieving. A wound cannot heal until you allow it to be exposed through talking about it, and allowing yourself to fully heal. That was the main reason for writing this book. To help others by sharing my pain!

What is your favorite part of writing?

Remembering lost memories that brought happiness to me. I had repressed for so many years, and they resurfaced.

Do you have a piece of advice for someone who wants to write a book?

Face your fears, stretch your goals and do it!!! A goal without a plan is just a wish! Don’t look back with only wishes, but goals that were achieved!!

What was the easiest and most difficult part of publishing?

Having a fabulous writer who could eloquently write the difficult chapters I was not able to write was by far the hardest part of publishing. The easiest part was finishing it!! Haha

If you could go back to the beginning, is there anything you would’ve done differently to get this book published?

No, because it was all on God’s timing, and not my own!

Tell us your favorite book or give us some recommendations.

I always loved the book “The Shack” because I could connect so easily to that book from a siblings perspective.

Do you think you'd ever write another book?

I’m not sure about that! Perhaps if there is more to add to my story and the mystery becomes resolved, but that is up to God and not me.

Anything else you'd like to share?

“God is still writing your story, stop trying to steal the pen.”
