❄️ Magic, Endings & New Beginnings

December is filled with wonder—snow and starlight, endings and beginnings, celebration and quiet reflection. It’s a time for stories that shimmer with possibility. Let these prompts inspire your month of writing.

✨ Fiction Prompts

  1. On the longest night of the year, your character makes a wish. At midnight, it comes true—with a twist.

  2. A snow globe your character buys at a thrift shop seems ordinary…until the scene inside starts to change.

  3. A mysterious gift arrives on your character’s doorstep. There’s no name, no note, only a strange symbol.

✨ Nonfiction Prompts

  1. Reflect on the closing of the year—what surprised you most?

  2. Write about a holiday tradition that connects you to family or memory.

  3. Imagine writing a letter to yourself one year from now. What would you say?

✨ Poetry Prompts

  1. Write a poem that begins with the words, “The year is ending…”

  2. Use winter imagery—frost, snow, stars—to explore inner stillness.

  3. Create a poem in the shape of a star, bell, or tree.

📝 Mini Challenge: Write to Close the Year

Before December ends, write a short reflection—fictional or personal—about the year behind you. Keep it to one page. Sometimes the best way to step into the new year is to give closure to the old.

December holds both endings and beginnings. May these prompts help you finish the year strong and step into the next with fresh creative energy.
